Starlight Sailor is an old favourite among the Barefoot community, and has recently been reissued as a large board book (one of the most gorgeous formats, I think). I had to grab us a copy for the BIB library because the pictures on the website just looked so gorgeous. Abigail and I snuggled up after school the day it arrived and had a read together.
The story starts with the rhyme Starlight, Star Bright, then takes you on a journey across a dreamy sea in a paper boat, all the way back to morning. Jackie Morris’s ethereal illustrations sail you over seas full of pirates and unicorns, dragons and sea serpents, matching the gentle pace of the rhyme. There is lots to draw on from the pictures, so anyone can enjoy the book, whether they can read independently or not. It was a perfect pace for some after-school quiet time, and we followed the end notes to make ourselves our own origami boats. We love our end notes at Barefoot in Belfast!
